Change of plans

by Balki

We missed a few sessions because of various commitments but are hoping to gain momentum during the summer months.

I mentioned in my last post that we were all excited about The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference – which was going to be our next book.  However, after reading the book (twice!) I decided that it was not a great platform for our “action-focused” book club.  Malcolm Gladwell sprinkled the book with extremely elitist insights but it is just not the right outlet for the participants of the club.

We met couple of weeks ago informally and decided to pick “Getting Things Done (The Art of Stress-Free Productivity)” book instead as our learning template.  Many thanks to Rajeev for leading us in the right direction.  Most of the participants already have a copy of the book (brand new copies this time! – I found the best deal on Barnes&Noble and couldn’t resist the smell of a new book).

I am personally very excited about this topic since I like to think of myself as an amateur cult follower of David Allen and his highly actionable ideas.

I will post the Mindmap in a separate post soon…

[UPDATED] Next meeting: 6:30pm September 11th, 2007 at the Corillian Campus Center

by Balki

I am still upbeat after the wonderful meeting tonight and wanted to post the details about next meeting before I change into my Clarke Kent dress.

So, here are the details:
Date & Time: 6:30pm September 11th, 2007
Venue: Corillian Campus Center, 3400 NW John Olsen Pl, Hillsboro OR 97124

BizbookClub-Venue

Book: Continue with “Developing the Leader Within” by John Maxwell (chapters 2 & 3).

How about Corillian as the venue for the meetings?

by Balki

It is getting difficult for me to reserve the meeting room at the Hillsboro Main library because of their reservation conditions and the popularity of the place. What do people think about meeting at the Corillian campus center instead?
The place is easily accessible and I don’t mind being the single point-of-failure since this is going to be a once-a-month affair.

Next book: Developing the Leader within You by John C. Maxwell (date & time TDB)

by Balki

We decided to go with legendary leadership author John Maxwell’s book “Developing the Leader within You”.
Tons of paperback and hardbound copies are available all over the internet, including on Amazon & Barnes&Noble. You can easily find a good new or used copy for under 10$. I might pick a copy at Barnes & Noble tomorrow so if someone wants to borrow mine, feel free to email me!
Because of some conflicts we may not be able to meet at the scheduled date, time & place (Tuesday June 24th at the Hillsboro Main Library)
I will post the details on this blog as soon as we decide on the date, time and venue.
Happy reading until then!

Great news - A copy of "4-hour workweek" to be raffled during the first group meeting!

by Balki

I have some great news to share with the group!

I requested the publishers for a few copies of the book “The 4-Hour Workweek” for our first book club meeting and they agreed to send me one copy!

If we get the copy before our first meeting on 26th June, I will raffle off that copy during that meeting.

So, if you want a chance at scoring a free copy of the book, make sure you are there ;)
